Located in the heart of medieval Kilkenny, Ormonde College offers a wide variety of courses to students in County Kilkenny and beyond. Ormonde College is continually reviewing and developing it range of courses and this year they have introduced a number of new and exciting courses that may be of interest to those who are completing their post-primary education as well as mature applicants wishing to return to education to study for a qualification. These are full-time, fully accredited courses that are designed with a unique blend of practical vocational skills, academic work and work experience. We have, over the years, formed close links with the business, commercial, industrial and service sectors towards the end of providing students with practical learning in real work settings. |Certificate in Animal Care||This is a one year full time course that prepares students to work in a range of settings that provide direct care to animals.|
|Certificate in Security Studies||This is a one-year, FETAC certified, full-time course that prepares students for entry into the Security Industry in position such as static guarding, mobile security patrols, retail security and security for special events. In addition, it may offer successful graduates the opportunity to progress further to An Garda Siochana, Defense Forces and the Prison Service. PDA, Safe Pass and manual handling certification will be made available to students.|
|Diploma in Beauty Therapy||This is a two-year, full-time course leading to internationally recognised Diplomas in Beauty Therapy.Accredited by ITEC and CIBTAC. We are proud to announce that we are working towards CIDESCO accreditation which entitles us to offer students the opportunity of sitting the CIDESCO International examination.|
|Diploma in Complementary and Holistic Therapies||This is a one-year, full-time course leading to internationally recognised diplomas in Complementary and Holistic Therapies. Accredited by ITEC and CIBTAC.|
|Certificate in Fine Art (Portfolio Preparation)||This is one-year, full-time course that aims to develop skills in the use of materials and techniques and affords students opportunities for creative expression through a variety media.|
|Advanced Certificate in Fine Art||This is a one-year, full-time course that aims to advance students creativity in the visual arts. Students further develop technical skills and artistic identity through studio work and exhibition organisation.|
|Certificate in Business Studies(Secretarial)||This is a one-year, full-time course that prepares students to work in a range of business office environments.|
|Certificate in Busiess Studies(Financial)||This is a one-year, full-time course thast prepares students to work in a range of environments in the financial sector.|
|Certificate in Childcare(with Special Needs)||This is a one-year, full-time course that prepares students to work with children in a vareity of childcare settings.|
|Supervisors Certificate in Childcare||This is a one-year, full-time(three days per week) course that prepares students to enter childcare in managerial and supervisory positions.|
|Certificate in Youthwork(Working with Young People)||This is a one-year, full-time course for those interested in working with young people in community and care settings.|
|Certificate in Media Studies||This is a one-year, full-time course that affords students the opportunity to become familiar with the various aspects of the field of print and broadcast journalism, advertising, photography and image processing.|
|Certificate in Nursing Studies||This is a one-year, full-time course that provides an introduction to the career of nursing and health-related fields.|
|Certificate in Community Healthcare(with Social Studies)||This is a one-year, full-time course that prepares students to work in a broad range of healthcare settings.|
|Certificate in Sport and Recreation||This is a one-year, full-time course that aims to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to pursuea career in the leisure industry with a particular emphasis on sports coaching. This course includes a select number of sportts coaching modules meeting the approval of the relevant National Governing bodies(NGB).|
|Certificate in Sport and Recreation (Fitness and Health)||This is a one-year, full-time course that aims to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to pursue a career in the leisure industry. Student will pursue the level 5 award in Sport and Recreation form the Further Education and Training Award Council(FETAC) and the Exercise and Fitness Level 1 award offered by the National Council for Exercise and Fitness(NCEF) and accredited by the University of Liimerick.|
There are no tuition fees payable to the College by EU Nationals. However, students should budget for the cost of examinations, textbooks and materials. Non-EU Nationals who do not meet the exemption requirements are liable for the full tuition fee of €3,430 as per Department of Education and Science instructions. A Students services charge of €150 is payable on registration. This fee is non-refundable. Students should budget for the cost of examinations, textbooks and materials. This cost may vary between courses.
PLC Student Grants
Students attending Post-Leaving Certificate courses may apply, through their local VEC, for a European Social Fund Aided Maintenance Grant. These grants are means tested and payable monthly. Further details and application forms are available from Co. Kilkenny VEC – details on our grants page .
Post-Leaving Certificate students who live more than 3 miles from the College may be eligible to benefit from the Department of Education and Science Transport Scheme.
