Duiske College opened in September 1954 and is designed to meet the second level educational needs for Graignamanagh and its hinterland, including South Carlow.
It is a non-selective, co-educational school, which aims to promote the total development of each individual student. Duiske College’s comprehensive programme of instruction in languages, sciences and the humanities equips our students to meet the challenges of the modern world. In addition, a career guidance and a counselling service is offered. There is an active Parents Association and Student Council. A book rental scheme is available and annual Gaeltacht and French Scholarships are offered.
Through an affiliation with the Tipperary Institute of Technology and Microsoft Academy System, students are awarded certificates on completion of designated Microsoft exams.
The school has a number of general purpose classrooms as well as a full range of facilities incorporating Library, Combined Science and Chemistry Laboratory including a Preparation room, Business Studies Room, Computer Room, Technical Drawing Room, Wood Technology and Construction Studies Room including ancilliary sanding, painting and storage rooms, Art and Crafts Room, Home Economics Room and Resource Room. Outdoor facilities include a basketball court and the acquisition of a playing pitch is currently being actively pursued.
Sports / Extra Curricular Activities
Activities offered include Hurling, Gaelic Football, Soccer, Badminton, Tennis, quizzes and participation in literary and cookery competitions.
|Junior Certificate||In First Year, all students take the following subjects: Gaeilge, English, Maths, Science, Geography, French, Business Studies, Technical Graphics, Art, Craft and Design, Home Economics, Materials Technology (Wood), History.
In Second Year, the students select from the following pairs:
Materials Technology or Home Economics
Business Studies or Technical Graphics
with the eight remaining subjects and Religion.
There are also classes in Computer Studies, Civic Social and Political Education and Health Education.
|Leaving Certificate (Traditional)||In addition to Gaeilge, English and Mathematics, students take four additional subjects from:
French, Geography, Biology, Chemistry, Home Economics (Social and Scientific), Construction Studies, Technical Drawing, Accounting and Art.
Senior students also take classes in Computer Skills, Guidance and Religion.
|Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP)||This programme, in addition to the seven examination subjects chosen above, includes modules on Enterprise Education, Preparation for the World of Work and Information Technology.|
|Post-Leaving Certificate Courses (PLC)||The school offers courses in Computerised Business Studies and Art, Craft and Design. These courses are validated and certified by the Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC).|
|Adult Education Programmes||Evening classes are provided each term in a variety of subjects. In recent years classes in Art, Computers, and Stained Glass have proven very popular.|
